pH Up is a base solution formulated with potassium hydroxide and potassium carbonate, which is designed to raise the pH level when it falls below the ideal range of 5.5 to 6.5. To use pH Up, simply add a small amount at a time until you reach the desired pH level. It is recommended to start with one milliliter of pH Up per gallon of water, wait 15 to 30 minutes, and then test the pH again. Typically, you will only need 1 to 2 ml of pH Up per gallon of water, but it may vary depending on the hardness of your water.
On the other hand, pH Down is an acid formulation that uses phosphoric acid to lower the pH when it is too high. The process for using pH Down is similar to that of pH Up: start with one milliliter per gallon, wait 15 to 30 minutes, and then test the pH again. Adjust the amount of pH Down as needed to reach the optimal range.
Maximum absorption of the 16 essential elements is achieved when the pH is maintained between 5.5 and 6.5. When the pH falls below this range, many of the macroelements (NPK) become less available, and the absorption of the micronutrients can reach toxic levels. Therefore, it is crucial to regularly test and adjust the pH of your nutrient solution to ensure optimal plant growth and development.
